The construction of the only Saudi city in the world without cars and a street has begun

Saudi Arabia has begun construction of a mega-city, an investment worth an estimated $ 500 billion.

Neom is built in the Tabuk region, in the northwestern part of the kingdom, close to the border with Jordan and Egypt, up to the Red Sea.

The city would be declared a "free zone", according to the international press, different laws will be established compared to the rest of the country, the normative acts will enter into force in 2022. The city will be built based on the principles of a "smart city". Neom is a combination of the Greek word neos, or "new", and mustaqbal, Arabic for "future".

The first stage of the project, in which the works have started, aims to create the linear area of the city called "The Line" - a city stretching 170 km and which would house over one million people who will not be able to use cars to move. Instead, the initiators say that no trip to "The Line" will be longer than 20 minutes.

NEOM will be a hub for innovation, where established global businesses and emerging players can research, incubate and commercialize groundbreaking technologies to accelerate human progress.

Commerce and industry will be integrated into community centers to build supply chains that facilitate innovative and efficient operations.

NEOM will be built around people, not cars, and designed for convenience and walkability. Adopting a pedestrian-first approach, all amenities will be within a five-minute walk.

NEOM will introduce a new model for urban sustainability powered by 100% renewable energy.

It will adopt environmental responsibility principles that promote sustainable and regenerative development practices.
